My wife and I were in Mazatlán last new year's (one year ago), and I would like to share an experience we still talk about. We got donuts and pastries from the Panama cafe in the Golden Zone (and downtown) several times for smaller between-meals snacks. The pastries are excellent and very inexpensive. Since the restaurant part was always crowded (particularily with Mexican tourists), we decided to eat at Panama for lunch one day. The ambience is not what you will get at other restaurants -- no outdoor seating, no minstrels playing songs for money. It is a typical diner setting. However, the food was excellent. There were large portions, and the price was very, very reasonable. It was one of the best (and cheapest) meals we had the whole trip. The main reason I am leaving this comment is the following warning: If you can read some Spanish, you should use the Spanish side of the menu for ordering. Because they have translated (and explained) some dishes into English, there is not enough room on the English side for everything. Some of the best sounding entrees don't appear on the English side. In particular, anyone who has never had horchata should try it here (not on the English side). The "cocorchata" on the English side is not worth the extra cost for a few shards of coconut. Thanks for a great website! -Ryan

I read all of your restaurant reviews. They were very interesting. The one restaurant that I did not find among yours is Sr. Peppers, out by the former Camino Real Hotel. Why is it that you have not included that one ?? If you have eaten there may we please have your comments about it. We are planning to visit Mazatlán for a week starting Dec 26. We have enjoyed reading all of your website. Thank you, Karl Graumann.

This a complaint regarding MAYAN SEA GARDEN MAZATLAN!! We just got back from what seems like a long week vacation Dec.02-09, 2005. When you enter the security gate of the resort, it is with gravel road, smoked filled lobby, unorganized receptionist, which of course has no clue what happened to your reservation. It took 45 minutes to register to this resort. The fun part begins with a room #2006, which you think a 2 bedrm will be beautiful, promised with a pool view. What are they thinking? What pool view!!! A RED ROOF VIEW!!!! When you enter this room, you are taken by surpirse by a mildew/mold smell, their excuse is that it is an old building-WHATEVER!!! We had to take the room for the night because we were told all the rooms were filled, LIE!!! We woke up with a sore throat and a cough, we complained and got moved to the Coral Bldg., which was somewhat acceptable, this room did a have a door slider, which you can open it and let the mildew/mold smell out. To top this vacation off, we were victims of theft, which resulted in loosing $700US, brand new palmE2, and my camera case. How dare they violate us, they went thru our luggage and stole!!! What did they do when we discovered this? They sent a non-speaking English security, and tore our room apart. Told us to go to the police station and make a complaint. I am out of words and frustrated with this resort. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESORT TO ANYBODY!!!!!!!!!!! WE WERE VIOLATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We loved Stone island and will be doing it again but have never heard anything about deer island. 2. which gorcery store is the best for shopping at. I have been to Gigante but have never tried any others. Is walmart good for grocery's and does walmart have alcohol? we are leaving on Friday for 2 weeks in mazatlan at Torres Mataland and I am just trying to get a couple things figured out. We have only been there once and it was 2 years ago. Thank you dawn

Ok, me and my boyfriend are getting married in December. So we wanted to go to Mazatlán for our honeymoon. I have a few questions that are unanswered. 1.Is it true there's no legal drinking age...? I don't want to go to a bar filled with drunk little kids. 2.How much to rent a jet-ski. 3.Where's the best places to go and see? and 4.Where's the best places to stay. We're going to be in Mazatlán for 5 days. Thank you.... -Jasmin

Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me. My mom and dad love Mazatlán and have been there often. My dad is 70 yrs old and a fishing fanatic. A few years ago he declared he was going to try and catch as many species as possible before he passes away. He always does catch and release right after he takes a picture for his book. The only problem is where can he go. He's done deep sea fishing but it's all for the same fish. Not to mention his budget. Is there any way to get information or maps for lakes and rivers. Thank you very much, Gina

I was recently in Mazatlán for vacation (August 6-13)and visited a Pardo Jewelry store. We attempted to purchase three pieces of jewelry, but because my credit card was maxed, we agreed to send a check for the jewelry as soon as we got home. We were promised that they would send the pieces right away. I have called the store twice. Once I was told that the pieces had been shipped. Today, I was told that they cannot ship gem stones to the US and that someone would be bringing them to the US and mailing them to us. I attempted to call the New York number, but only got a message in Spanish and a disconnect. I am worried that I have lost my money. Do you know anything about Pardo? Please advise. Sharon

Nadine and Henry: Love your site! Coming back to Mazatlán after 5 years. Last there Nov 2000 and can't wait to be back this November! I have a few questions I hope you can answer. Wondering if there is any way you can get me an email address for Ginger (of Ginger's Horses). I 'd like to give my boy friend a ride on the beach for his birthday. i am vey afraid of horses but went on a horseback ride with him in Playa del Carmen. I ruined the ride, not only for him but for the rest of the people too (i'm sure). I never let the guide let go of my reins the eintire time so we all went very slow. He ould like to gallop fast on a beach. From reading it sounds like I would be able to just hang out on the beach while he goes for his ride. Is this correct? I want to get in touch with Ginger so I can be sure he will be able to get some "speed" while riding! my other question is about your friend who make jewelry. So If i bring several pieces of gold & diamonds he can melt it down and turn it into something else? Is that what you mean by "raw materials". Thanks for your help Mary Ann Cashman

Christmas is an excellent time to go to Mazatalan. Many people from US and Canada are there at that time. It is when we usually go. The Grand Plaza and other malls are decorated for the season, as are most of the hotels. At New Years, the fireworks from Valentinos and the Playa Mazatlán are spectacular. If you are high up in our hotel, Los Sablos, you can see fireworks all over the city.

We have been to Stone Island twice. It has a beautiful, huge beach, and is very unique - - real "Mexican". The people who live and work there are fantastic. You will propably want to be seranaded by the local 3 piece band. They serve a delightful lunch, and there is much to do - - horse back riding, snorkeling, and banana boat rides. You can also get one of the locals to take you on a tour of the area in a pulmonia. They took us, and we paid them 200 pesos. They were happy with that. I think it would be a delightful place to get married.

this message is for Beth! there is a lot for kids to do. If your going to be at the beach there is boogie boarding, parasailing, surf lessons, horseback rides, jet ski's and more. there are these options all along the golden zone section of beach. My friends work right in front of the el moro tower so i recommend them but the prices seem to be the same all up and down the the beach. I havent been to Stone Island or the aquarium but i have heard good things about both. I dont recomend some of the tours for the kids, too long and slow they would find them boring. there are a number of movie theaters one is right in town and the american movies play in english so thats a good option for evenings. Old mazatlan is fun, there is shopping at the mercado but it can be busy and overwhelming so if you go there i dont recommend splitting up. There are usually cultural events in the plaza in old mazatlan at night i recommend checking out a schedual at the place you are staying at. Be aware that everyone works on commission there so if they try to get you to do something your not interested in don't be afraid to say no. I also recommend not eating at the same place too often there is good dinning and food everywhere and its all a little different so try as many places as you can, breakfast can be a good deal at many places too. also buy your sunscreen at home- it is expensive in Mazatlán. Have a good trip email me if you have more specific questions.

This message is for Beth from Vancover. I got my hair braided right on the beach. There are multiple braiders out on the beach on any given day. The girl that did my hair did a really fabulous job, i was located in front of the El Cid, El Moro tower next to the parasailing crew that has the parachute that says "MAZATLAN". I think i paid 100 pesos but i have short hair and it was a very slow day, so you may pay more but it is still a good deal and sitting on the beach is an enjoyable place to get a hair-do! As I was reading through other comments, I found a question about using phones in MExico. I bought the TelMex phonecard (25 minutes for $10). Your best bet as far as i know. Some friends that i went with were charged over $50, one $90, for relatively short phone calls, by charging the calls to their credit cards. Don't do it, even of they tell you its not that expensive, because we were told $2-3 per minute, but it was more like $8-10!!

Thank you so much for the wonderful information on Mazatlán. We just returned from a very relaxing week at the Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay. We took a city tour on a trolley type bus and really got a good look at many parts of town. It just happened that the tour ended with dinner at El Sheik. Because you said it was your favorite place to eat, we were excited about going there. No one else on the tour wanted to stop, so they dropped us off. It was a wonderful restaurant (practically had the place to ourselves!) - great food and a fabulous view. Thanks for that recommendation! My only complaint is they don't offer much info when you get there (maps, etc.) so having checked out your website ahead of time was so very helpful! I was saddeded to see some stray cats, not many, but always glad there are people like you who are trying to help out the animals! Thanks again, Laura Strickland

Hey you guys, Great site. Thank you so much for all the info. We will be in Mazatlán on 6/11 thru 6/18 staying at Estrella Del Mar. I bought Chuck's book, read it. Between your website and "Mazatlán Is Paradise" I've fallen in love with the place. I'm hoping to buy property while I'm there. It'll be a lot easier buying property if my wife likes it there also, wish me luck! I'm bringing 5 youngsters with me, when they get bored of the serenity and seclusion at EDM I hope to take them down to Stone Island. So far, I've been told that the best way there is to go all the way around and take the ferry. King David Tours is opening up an RV park in Stone Island and are fixing that undrivable dirt road from EDM to SI. Hopefully they'll have it done by the time we get there. this message is for scott the surfer. I am a part-time resident of mazatlan, actually i just check this page hopeing to get news of the town, I guess im a little homesick. Anyhow there are a couple of surf shops in the area but if you want to go were the locals go, most of my friends that live there go to the mazatlan surf center next to the dairy queen in the golden zone. I met the owner at a party his name is Alister and he was very nice. I see a lot of local surfers in and out of there so a perk to going there might be getting the best surf spots. I dont know if they have a website or not. There is also the Palm surf shop, also in the golden zone, and i think a couple of the water sports centers working off of the beach rent by the hour. If your interested in parasailing say hello to my friends that work in front of the El Moro tower (El Cid) I just spoke to one today and he says the waves are good, he was just out surfing this morning. Good luck i hope you have fun!

Just in case anyone could use a recommendation.... Having just spent a week at Pueblo Bonito in Emerald Bay, we can say without reservation that it is surely one of the nicest, if not THE nicest, hotel/resorts in Mazatlán; and we visited several. The property sits right on the ocean, in an isolated, not-yet-developed area at the north end of town. The drive into the newer city is about 10 minutes and for those who do not want to keep a car, a hotel bus runs every hour to and from the in-town Pueblo Bonito and the out-of-town location. Everything about Emerald Bay is excellent: the attractive italianate architecture; the two enormous swimming pools; the wonderfully landscaped grounds; the peace and quite; the well-mannered and very competent service teams; the lovely, large rooms and suites; the fine and generous dining, and so forth. There is simply NOTHING with which to find fault! May anyone who takes this recommendation be as pleased as we were! Dionisio

Early last Saturday the 14th (2:00am) our plane touched down in Boise after 11 days and 10 nights in Mazatlán. We stayed at the Hotel Playa Mazatlán again, this being my wife and my fourth time and second time we took out daughter who will be 13 in 8 days. We also went with another couple we went with have been in Mazatlán many more times, and the two of them met in Mazatlán at the Playa Mazatlán, and also a couple and their almost 11 year old daughter who have never been there, or out of the USA. While there a friend of ours and his new bride joined us for 5 days. Needless to say they were very sad when they had to leave and we still had 5 days left, of course all good things do end and our turn to experience the Departure Blues set in Late Thursday after a great meal at Pedro & Lola's, (http://www.restaurantpedroylola.com/english/home.html ) one of my personal favorite places to eat in Old Mazatlán. All the times that Lynda and I have been to Mazatlán we've never gotten sick, (not counting minor hangovers) and we're a little more adventurous than our other friends, since we've eaten hotdogs from street vendors in the Golden Zone, and I've bought sandwiches (that you can buy in the small grocery stores) when I wanted something simple and quick to eat. Several of the people that work at the Playa recognized us from previous times, Roman, a waiter at the little Cabana by the main pool, and also Carlos, a waiter in the main part of the Playa. Carlos also was out waiter ate the Mexican Fiesta. After 40 years of working at the Playa, Carlos will be retiring this year, and we all want to wish him the very best of luck in his new adventures. We will try to se him on our next visit, as he told us be may be working part time at a Sports Bar in Mazatlán. We all had a fun time and I know my wife and I are already saving for our next trip.

Ive heard from other customers that Alister @ Mazatlán Surf Center next to the dairyqueen is the person to go to for surfing lessons, ive met him and he seems very nice. Im dating a surfer down there and if you just want to know where they surf, try in front of El Quiote Inn, The Beach in front of Olas Altas, Right by Valentinos, or north at playa bruja. I hope im not giving away local secrets. Beware of the random rocks, its not all sand out there! If you want to question a local directly the guys that run the parasailing in front of el moro tower(el cid)with the multicolored parasail are personal friends and mostly surfers. If you venture there say hello for me.

First thank you so much for this site! I just returned home to Maine after my first six month stint in Mazatlán and am beginging to wonder how long ill call Maine home. Ill be returning to Maz, as soon as finances allow, to continue my work as an indepentant Massage Therapist. I learned a great deal about Mazatlán in my six months and welcome anyones questions. i see that many want to know about calling cards- none of mine worked at all but i did find a place in the Gaviotas plaza upstairs where i could purchase 60 minutes for 100 pesos, the best deal i found. Sorry i dont remember the name. Thank you Nadine and Henry this site is helping me cope with my Mazatlán withdrawls. Maybe ill have the good fortune to thank you in person when i return.

I lived in Mexico many years ago,and realize even though the availability of goods has improved, there are some things that you still can't find, or are cost prohibitive in Mexico. Here is your chance. I am comming from Seattle is there anything you would like? Good chocolate, bag of beans from Starbucks, bottle of Scotch (Washington has very high liquor taxes but still better prices than Mexico OH! I will be going through Duty free!!) ??? Barry

Henry and Nadine, What a wonderful resource of information..Thank you so much. I, my wife and children (4 and 6 yrs old) are planning a trip to Mazatlán in August. I have seen rainfall data history for Mazatlán, and am worried since August seems to be a "maxima". Your rainfall measurements for the year so far seem to indicate that the rainfall is not following historical trends. Am I making too much out of all this, is August a good month to visit ? Please advice. Also, even though you dont recommend specific hotels, can you suggest a few that are good for a family (we need something with a kitchen) ? I am looking at Pueblo Bonito and Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay... How is the Neuvo Mazatlán area? Thank you .. Sincerely, Mihir

Have enjoyed tremendously your website; it is so detailed and fun to read, better than an owners manual we recently bought. A lot more helful information, links, etc. Thank you so very much. Your sense of humor also makes us wish we can meet you in person - hope we can do that if you are going to be in Mazatlán next week till end of May. We would like to make contribution as suggested, but we don't like to do it online; we had a little problem we are trying to resolve with paypal, about someone else trying to change our address/account with paypal, so we are reluctant to do any money transaction online. We are in the process of trying to find our perfect retirement heaven and have been to several cities in Mexico as well as in the USA. We hope to find the answer after our trip to Mazatlán, as we are serious about buying a home/condo where cost of living is lower, specially health care and homes, where we can walk to cultural events, fiestas, or whatever entertainment the city/town has to offer, or take a bus without having to drive our car, or take taxis all the time, where we can walk on a beach if there is one (preferably), take a dip in the ocean (not an aggressive one as we are not swimmers but love the ocean) and where we can live comfortably without having to rush/run/ all the time, and where people are friendly and acknowledge you are a person that you can talk to and interchange ideas even if an stranger, in other words where we can enjoy life and "smell the roses." We are bilingual, bicultural, from Central and South America, living in California for decades, American citizens and having reached the "fall" of our lives (not the winter yet), want to retire to a place where there is still a lot of life, energy, good vibes, lots of things to do if we choose to do so, and where we can afford to have household help if and when we need it without having to mortgage our home. After reading your comments, we feel we can trust your judgment about real estate agents, notarios, Bancomer, etc. and would appreciate your reply. If you give us your phone number also, we can call you before we leave next tuesday. Thanks, again, for your informative website, and for capturing so well the idiosyncracy of Mexico's culture, the pros and cons that we all need to be aware of to fully enjoy what Latin American culture has to offer, although there are some variables from one country to the next south of the border.

My wife and I will be in Mazatlán May 16 through 22 on our honeymoon and I thought I would drop you a line to see if you might have some time to meet up and chat. I have read through your site and want to thank you for all the information you have compiled - I'm sure I will be pulling the info off onto my laptop for reference while we are there, assuming I will not have any or any good Internet access while staying at the Inn at Mazatlán. I was particularly intrigued by your professional background and experiences. I am currently heading up a startup company called Huddle Communications, a service provider for IP communications and conferencing services via PCs and telephone. Considering your techy background and ongoing communications with friends, family, and business associates in the US, I'd be interested in your take on what we're doing. Anyway, if you have any interest in talking or meeting up while we're down your way, please drop me a line. One last thing... I love to surf and have found little (NO) information so far, other than from friends regarding my ability to get in a few sessions while there. If you could steer me in the right direction, I would appreciate it. Thanks again for the website and I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you so much for the wealth of information you provide on your website. My fiance and I recently stayed two weeks and followed up on many of your suggestions. My primiary reason to write you however, is to tell you about a sweet young cat at the Torres Mazatlán. While we were staying the cat was seriously injured, an electrical explosion of somekind, we were told, severed her front right paw completely off its limb. She is not a feral cat. She is sweet and gentle. Everyday (and night) she can be found sitting at the base of Tower D at the Torres Mazatlán where we stayed while visiting Maz. The guests (including us) feed her quite regularly, usually there will be a paper plate or take-out box with something in it for her. And her paw appears to be healing well. She doesn't seem to be in any pain either. But she can't live that way forever and I remembered that you live in the area. Perhaps you could go by, see her and maybe find her a better home. She needs to be somewhere safe, indoors where she won't have to fend for herself. I hope you have the time and are inclined to follow-up with her. I have a picture I took while there, if you would like to see it? Thank you for anything you can do. She is truly very sweet looking and gentle. A tabby. My husband & I are driving down - we leave next week. We will be staying at El Moro. One question - I could not find on your site - was about using the phones in Mexico. I am thinking of getting a phone card. Is there one type that is prefered ? Or is it easier to pay as you use the phone ? And are there public phones that should be avoided ? We are so looking forward to enjoying all that we can - trips to Stone Island, and nearby towns as well, and soaking up all the sites and sun. Thank you so much for everything. Tonie & Bruce Hyde

QUICK QUESTION: Is is possible to live high enough up off the shore areas (inland, to the east) to overlook Maz and perhaps drop the warmest season temps a couple of degrees? Any difference in breezes up there. A bit more? This is a 'could I really stay all year and thrive' question. Especially pertinent if AC is quite costly as I understand. Sound right? I for lack of a better word, "studied" in Mazatlán during college. While I lived there, there was a bar/restaurant named "Sol y Sol"..is it still there? Also, I had an apartment next to the Doubletree Hotel..kind of a pink building right on the beach with a restaurant on the bottom floor...do you know its name? I have looked for answers to these two questions everywhere, but have not found any info..can you help? Thanks, D. Crow

I love Mazatlán, and our family has been going there every winter for 10 years, except this past winter. I have purchased a number of timeshares over the years, and probably would not do this again. Most of the timeshares seem to be legitimate, but frankly speaking, I think the Tropicana Hotel ( renamed the Playa Bonita - across from Los Sábalos) is a complete fraud. I urge everyone to avoid the Tropicana and Pardo Jewelers (Pardo is the owner). They have ripped all of us off, and Mexican Law (Profeco) have not been much help. I also would appreciate any tips anyone would be able to give me. My goal is to stop Pardo from continuing to cheat Americans and Canadians. Thanks, John

Even though I have been to Mazatlán several times I had no idea of the other places to stay and see. Thank you. Dear Nadine and Henry, We call you "dear" for after reading and enjoying much of your website, we feel like you are old friends that we just haven't seen for a wile. Erika and I are originally from Germany (Nuernberg is our home town, although we are also very fond of Heidelberg), and although we have lived in S. California for 45 years, we have never been to Mexico, except to Tijuana, if that counts. But, it is never too late, and so from March 30 until April 6 we will be at the Marina El Cid Hotel and enjoy your winter home town Mazatlán. Here is my offer, Erika and I would like to meet you and invite you to have dinner with us at YOUR favorite restaurant The Sheik. In return we would like to be invited to see your home (museum), especially the paintings, the Austrian chandelier in the hall way (Austria is our favorite country), the view and, well, frankly everything else. It's time for old friends to finally meet. Send us an e-mail or call us at the El Cid, we would be honored. Until then, best regards, Bob and Erika

Thanks for the great site as always. I agree with Lisa that Maz is a wonderful place. I was there from Jan 31-Feb 21. The airlines are losing out because they don't have direct flights from Sask. The Pacific Pearl now has a weekly news section and they say that more Can are coming down then before. Could you imagine the amount of ppl that they could have if we had direct flights. A lot of us do have timeshares, but the charter flights still make money off of us and we spend a lot of money down there every year. It was the strangest weather this year. Have never had rain in 8 yrs. The 1 Sat was a right off and right after lunch it came down in sheets. Glad I made it inside. Glad to see that there are more cruise ships coming in. Those ppl are good for the tourist industry. They spend, according to the PP, $100 p/p during their stay. Times that by 4,000, depending on how many ships are in, that's alot of pesos. Surprised at a couple of the cafes that have closed. Horns and Tails. (That could be the barkers fault as he was, is, SO annoying) and the beachfront cafe at the Corral Reef. No reason with a location like that, that it couldn't be as busy as Ponchos. Actally heard that Pardo(jewelry store) bought Corral Reef. With having Carnival and the baseball tourny on at the same time I think the city did a great job!! I know they busted their butts off during that time. Went to the Sheik while we were there. The first time. Great place. Supper was excellent! And the prices are not bad at all for what you get. One warning though. Don't order the eggs benedict. Don't know what they used for the sauce, and think that they boiled the eggs in straight vinegar! That's all you could taste, vinegar. You can't always win them! Arre LuLu's is still a great choice for food. The service is great and the prices are too! That is a watering hole for a bunch of Canadians every year. They make you feel like family. For a catamaran ride go to Cpt David just south of Balboa Towers. Never even asked his price this year (we took him last year and he remembered us). He took us to the marina and around the islands for only 250p. Next year we'll try north to see the sealions. Have you gone on a jungle tour anyone? Would like your opions for next year. Have you ever riden a bike in hot humid weather for a whole day? Did you know that the police on the bikes have to maintain the bikes? (read that somewhere). Each day I would get 2 bottles of COLD bottled water and when I saw the police I would stop them and give it to them. They were VERY!!!! appriciative!!! If more ppl would do that it would make life better for them. They're looking out for me so for a $1 a day I think I can help look out for them!!! Thanks again H & N Pete

Hi there, I have looked at your site many times over the years and enjoy it alot. I just got back from Mazatlán again!!! We have timeshare at Balboa Towers and this was my 6th year in a row....LOVE IT!!! What a wonderful place to be, great people, and a wonderful place to let loose!!! I have noticed the last few years a decline in the tourism, alot less people on the streets at night and not as many people in the bars. Now I know that you folks have no control over this but whats up??? Or is it just me??? I know that there are no direct flights out of Saskatchewan anymore which makes it alot harder for us to get there(and more expensive) we used to get on here in Regina. I also noticed alot of staff had changed in alot of the bars and when we asked were they had all gone we were told a number of times that guys were going to Cabo & Cancun because there was not enough work there???!!! Anyways we still love it and will be back weeks 7&8 2006 ready to party at Jungle Juice with Jorge and Joe's...we have such fun!! We hate to see things go down hill. Well let me know what you guys think, is there a change?? Or am I still drunk!!??? hahahaha...Thanks, Lisa

We ended up staying a week. The problem that I encountered was that for the most part there is no wheel chair access to the malecon, the restaurants and other various sights. I talked to someone there who said that was to change and was wondering if it has at all??

Hi Nadine & Henry, Thanks for all the information on your wonderful site. I have a question for you. We are considering staying at Estrella Del Mar in June of 2005. I know that you recommended not renting a car, but since Estrella is so far from town, we were going to rent a car. We wanted to be able to stop at the grocery store after arrival at the airport and have transportation back into town if necessary. Can you tell me what car rental agencys are located "AT THE AIRPORT"? We want to make sure its a legitimate car rental agency and not a time share hound scam (as we found out by experience in PV last year). Also, we will be bringing two children with us ages 8 & 6 yrs. Can you recommend any day or 1/2 day trips that would be fun for them? Thanks so much, Connie Turin

We are not sure where we will stay as we are exchanging for our time share and don't know yet which resort we will get. We will arrive on Nov. 5th or 6th. What is your opinion of that time in Mazlatan? We have been to Puerto Vallarta, Nueva Vallarta, Cancun and other areas in Mexico before. We'd appreciate your input.

great site - i printed the golden zone map and took it with, but was so easy to get around after a day i didn't need it. i'm 28 male with 25 male friend and we found great clubs (joes oyster bar and places by the beach), to answer the question below, and i'm sure superbowl will be playing (for the other question below), if not just head to a big hotel right? went horseback riding, snorkeling, wave running -- my friends mom buys food and school supplies for an orphanage in town, (near gigante), so it was interesting to visit there, and i also found an english speaking cab driver to take me on a drive into the country ad see a couple small towns - went to villa union south of airport, and another just over the hills from the hotels to the north - el something, can't recall name but had a beautiful yellow church and town square i highly recommend seeing the downtown or country, not just golden zone, gives you a great appreciation of the land all the best!

Will it still have quite a few people to the point where going to have a great time wouldnt be compromised by nobody being there. Thanks.

We have extensive experience(as tourists)in Mexico; we both speak Spanish; and the dining site can be your choice. I know it might be a bad idea, generally, to agree to such things with complete strangers so, if you turn us down there is no need to explain yourself. I'll just suffer along with the "limitations" of your site. Agradecidamente, Dionisio y Margarita

We are planning to go to Mazatlán in late April early May and were wondering if all the resorts and such still had their entertainment going or if the town kind of shuts down. We were there in October one year and found that some of the bars in the hotels that had entertainment choose to close down until November. We did not want to go there if that is the case. Thanks - absolutely love your sight! Arlene

We leave for Mazatlán in five days, this site has been so useful, we feel absolutely prepared. One question, we are staying in a condo in a smaller resort, if we wanted to go to El Cid to use their huge pool, etc. for the day, is that possible for a per person charge? Many Thanks!

Great site. We are visiting onboard the Diamond Princess on the 26th of January. Will only be there one day. Can you put me in touch with any of Jehovah's Witnesses that live in Mazatlán? Thanks

In answer to the person going to Emerald Bay. You will love it there. Safety is not a concern at Emerald Bay and I think you will generally be safe as long as you use your normal level of caution as a woman.

I got on your website a few weeks before our Mazatlán vacation and it was by far my favorite source for tourist info. Unfortunately, the week before we left, the website was not available. I could remember a few the things you suggested and we followed your advice. We had the best vacation ever! Now, I have referred you to friends. Don't ever go away again!

Dear Nadine and Henry, Some girlfriends and I are planning a trip th Mazataln in winter of 2005. We are wondering if it is worth while to book a city shopping tour? Some have tried to scare us from coming with only 4 women, should our safety be a concern? We will be staying at Emerald Bay and wonder what your opinion is of this resort?

We will be back for a week starting 1/22. I am glad I had your URL from other trips to Maz. Did I miss the section on restaurants? We will probably just hit the ones we liked on our last trip in 2001. Great site with a lot of info. Rich K.

I am having trouble finding a bed & breakfast or hotel that allows dogs. Any recommendations? Thanks, your site has been one of the most fun and informative so far on Mazatlán.

We havent been to M. since about 1982. We stayed at a hotel next to a Place called, Mr Frog. Before this when I was still single I used to go there all the time, say,,around 1957 to 1963.When my Wife and I got married I wanted so much to take Her there for Honey-mooning in that romantic setting but then She kept on saying that there were many high-way robbers and that there was all that dangerous crime and then We went NOWHERE. In company of some Friends from Culiacan we did drive there and thru there on the way to Puerto Vayarta,Well,I long to go there but then I'm getting older and perhaps I can't make it. I am in perfect health but then I don't know if the Wife would want to go.We're retired and just could go.Incidentally, I'll be celebrating my 75th. Birthday on the 12th. of this Month. We are invited to celebrate in Bakersfield with my Brothers.Your info. intrigues me. Thank You, God bless, From Victor and Bernice ornelaz.

I was in Mazatlán last week with my family for vacation. I had so looked forward to going for a long time and spent quite a bit of time in this forum and on maztravel.com getting information for the trip. About a week before we left, I felt myself coming down with a cold and did all I could to fight it off so that by the time we left, I felt that I had successfully staved off the worst of it. Boy was I wrong. We arrived in Guadalajara on a Thursday and took a but on Friday to Mazatlán. By Sunday, I was really not feeling well again. I had heavy chest congestion and a dry cough that was draining every ounce of strength I had. By Sunday, I told my wife that I really wasn't feeling well and that I thought I needed to see a doctor. Needless to say, I was very unsure of having the resort give me the name of a doctor down there, not knowing what level of care I would get. In desperation, I looked up Henry and Nadine Laxen in the phone book and decided to give them a try. Mind you, I don't know either of them except from having spent much time on this web site trying to get ready for the trip. Nadine answered the phone, and she couldn't have been nicer. She herself said that one had to be careful which doctor one went to down there. She gave me the cell phone number of her personal doctor and told me that if I were not able to contact him , she offered to come to the resort where I was staying and drive me personally to his office. I was able to contact her doctor, and I managed to get there on my own power. He prescribed some antibiotics and an expectorant and, in one day, I was back in order. I just have to publicly thank Nadine again for her really warm and generous offer to a perfect stranger. Thanks again, Paul Wilson
