My freind and I went to Mazatlan last summer. It was a blast. We stayed at Luna Palace. Here we were treated like queens. The workers were very nice and polite. Luna Palace was very clean. We took a tour everyday that we were there. I enjoyed the city tour the best. If you get a chance go to the Cathedral down town, it is the most beautiful church you will ever see. the market is another place to tour...very crowed but neat. Overall I would rate my trip very high! have fun and if you see Hector at Luna Palace say hi to him!!!

We are planning a trip to Mazatlan Jan 13, 2001. We plan to stay at Vidafel. I can't seem to find much info on the web. Could you please fill us in on the resort? Good food? nice beach? night life? nice rooms? swim-up bar? I hear it is quite a ways out, is there bus/taxi service if we should want to venture out for dinner/night clubs?

Just got back yesterday,Sunday,12/17/00,from a week long cruise on the Rhapsody Of The Sea. Made the stops in Cabo, Mazatlan and P.V.. The best thing we did was to rent a Suburban, there were 7 of us, and take in the sights on our own scheduel. Drivers name was Abel who spoke fluent english and was very knowledgeable. Went out to Playa Bruja to Gingers bilingual horses and went horseback riding. This was the best part of our trip. I had a horse that could handel my 250lbs and my 9 year old step-daughter had a horse she could handle. This place also had a great beach, cheap beer and sodas. Better than any tour you could take from the ship.

I live in San Diego, CA and I just read about three missing children from Canada who the Royal Canadian Mounted Police believe have been abducted by their mother and taken to Costa Rica within the past few weeks. The story has been widely reported in the Canadian media, and has been featured on the hit US TV show "America's Most Wanted". After reading the story I decided to add the father's web banner to my site, TrainingCity.com. After I added the banner it occurred to me that your site offers one of the best possible chances to find these missing kids. I suspect thousands of tourists type in your web address before visiting Costa Rica, and there is an excellent chance one of them will recognize the children. Would you consider joining me in helping this Canadian father reunite with his missing children? I've included a link back to his site where you can copy the animated gif and it should only take a moment to add the link. Here's the link for some background info: http://www.rdmtech.on.ca/triplets/ And here's the html for adding the banner: http://www.rdmtech.on.ca/triplets/banner.html

We are absolutely thrilled to be heading back to Mazatlan after 5 years. We will be staying at the Balboa Towers this time and I just can't seem to find any info on it other than what's in the RCI book. Any help from your end? Here's a 'Mexico' story that we'd like to share with you folks because we really enjoy your website and look forward to using these terrific coupons in January 2001 While we were last in Mazatlan (5 yrs. ago) we stayed at the Vidafel and were THRILLED with the atmosphere, the service, and most especially, the staff (many thanks to Javier). The grounds were beautiful and the beach clean and had just the right mix of vendors who were very careful not to cross the line onto Vidafel property. Nevertheless, we noticed that our gorgeous 13th floor suite lacked enough cord length on the toaster to make it effective. We made a call to the desk and asked, in my best Spanish, which is an entirely different story, for a short 6 foot or 2 meter extension cord. We were then very diplomatically informed that "In Mexico, Senor, we do not use extension cords!" However, a service man(boy) would immediately be dispatched to our room to rectify this situation. After his inspection of the situation, he determined that he had just the cure for our problem and would return in a (Mexican) moment to carry out the necessary repairs. Well, return he did! And with the most familiar 6 foot, white extension cord in hand, a rather well-worn tool belt slung quite rakishly around his extremely thin hips, and a great big, white-toothed grin on his beaming face. Just when I thought all of our distresses were nearing there end, out of that scarred tool pouch came a rusty pair of wire-cutters that made quick work of the female end of the extension cord. That 3-outlet end was quickly relegated to a waiting pocket on the tool pouch. The young 'electrician', still grinning from ear to ear, then proceeded to strip the wires of their insulation, snip the male end off the toaster cord (remember the toaster cord?), remove that cord's insulation, twist the two wire ends together, and, while whistling a most catchy tune, wrap the entire result in genuine electrician's tape. The grande finale came with a most self-satisfied grin and an equally confident AQUI! Anyway, we are really going to enjoy our stay in beautiful Mazatlan and will get back to you sometime in February, 2001. From the 'frozen North' we thank you 'way too much' for this most useful site .... Adios y hasta luego, amigo y amiga.

We just spent 2 fantastic weeks in Mazatlan. This is our second time there,we went there in Nov. of 99 for 1 week and again for 2 weeks in Nov.00. Both times we stayed at the Riviera Beach Resort and we will without a doubt go back. The hotel is very clean and the staff is by far the the best. Miriam who takes the reservations made our stay a delight. Our waiters Rafael and Armando to say the least were the BEST. Our only complain would be the time sharing vultures, they are everywhere. We have traveled much of Mexico, places such as Merida, Progresso,Villadolid, Cancun,Isla Mujeres, Cozumel, Oaxaca,Puerto Angel, Puerto Escondido,Acapulco,Ixtapa,(my favorite)Zihuantenejo, and Puerto Vallarta. We have never had a bad experience and we have never been sick. Anyone going to Mexico, should have a good time. Certain precautions should be taken, the same precautions that you would use whenever traveling. You can't beat the Sun, the Surf and a ice cold Cerveza. To anyone going, have a great trip. I only wished that I could be there also.

My wife and just returned from Mazatlan. Like so many others, we are ready to return and probably will in Feb. We were staying at the Hotel Playa which I really like, but we bought a condo in Mazatlan this year at Playa Escondida by the new marina and we thourougly enjoyed it. There are several rental units there, so if anyone wants a nice, quiet place to stay with beautiful grounds, a nice view, a pool and tennis court.......I can recomend it. I would like to thank Henry and Nadine for the information on their web site. It along with some advice from friends who own property there made our purchase go very easy. My wife and I have been going to Mazatlan since 1988 and have enjoyed it more and more each year. If anyone would like to ask me about it, I would be glad to help as time permits me to answer. We are just back from Mazatlan and a stay at the Oceano Palace. I have to agree with Nicole from Abbotsford in a previous message..a few pesos dropped here and there for the waiters and the cleaning staff are much appreciated, and is reflected in the service! Appreciation is give and take anywhere. This was our 8th trip to Mazatlan...we usually stay at a different property each time, and...we've never had a negative experience. The Oceano is undergoing a good renovation, and will be back to its 'pretty self' soon. Although this is rated a 2 1/2 star property, ...for the money you spend...you're laughing!

We were thinking of spending Spring Break in Mazatlan. I wanted to go somewhere warm (since I know I'll be sick of the snow and cold by then), and somewhere where I can drink (since I'll be the only one in my group a couple months short of 21). How about telling us about some cheaper hotels to stay in. We wouldn't be in the hotel much, basically just to sleep in. So it doesn't have to be anything glamorous. Please let me know. Thanks.

Just got back from a great week in Mazatlan and I am missing it already! Hot weather, blue skies....Stayed at the Oceano Palace which wasn't too bad. It definately wasn't a 3 star hotel but the rooms were clean, the food was good, and the staff was helpful. Humberto (bartender/waiter) and Jamie (waiter) provided excellent service the whole week we were there. Its amazing that giving a couple pesos for a tip will ensure that your glass is never empty! The beach outside the hotel was gorgeous with clean sand, hardly any rocks in the water...and no seaweed (being from BC that is a big thing for me). Don't expect to change your traveller's cheque's at the hotel though. They never had ANY peso's available. At least there is money exchange place right across the street. (Trust me...don't bother with the banks) Also they have an internet cafe next door for those people that need their daily emails!! Bartering with the venders was alot of fun. You get to know them quite well, and while they can be annoying at times, you haven't seen pushy people until you go to the Market or Stone Island. The open taxi's were alot of fun to drive around in. You can go just about anywhere for 30 pesos...Make sure you barter your price before you get into the taxi. We paid one of the taxi drivers 200 pesos (about $20 US) to take us for a 2 hour tour around the city. Adios!!

Hi there, you'll find this kind of strange but here goes. My daughter, Samantha is down in Mazatlan, she's living in an apartment in the Golden Zone. She doesn't have a telephone and I don't know the name of the apartment building. She usually calls once a week and now it's been 2 weeks. I'm really worried about her. She's with a Mexican family that she has known for about 8 months. When she calls, she calls from a street phone with our phone card which is great but now she hasn't called. Could you advise me on some channels I could go through to try and find her? She's been selling jewellery for her friends to tourists in the market. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We get along really well so it's not a relationship problem as to her not calling. Thank you, a worried mom.

Using my daughter's email address while visisting her in Seattle this week. I have no computer at home, yet! We have one at our business and our finally online. So I will get my own email address. But for now, I want to say how much we love Mazatlan. I purchased a timeshare at the Pueblo Bonito while on a trip with some friends. I had hoped it woould get my husband to take a vacation once in awhile. Well it worked. He absolutely loves it in Mazatlan, and the Pueblo Bonito. What a beautiful resort. Beautiful grounds and rooms, nice staff and wonderful beach. We have got to know one of the bartenders and cabana boys well and they treat us like royalty. The food at Pueblo is divine, and so are the drinks. We reccommend it highly. My husband is so pleased with Mazatlan that he wants to move there. I think just renting a place for the winter months would be fine. So we are interested in any advice. We've heard of some great deals with a maid and everything. We will be retiring in a couple of years. One drawback. Timeshare sellers are everywhere, now even in the restaurants. It get annoying. I heard it was worse in Cabo, but I can't imagine. It's like HELLO we have one already. Anyway, I highly reccommend Mazatlan to everyone. Thanks Nadine and Henry for all the info.

We are coming back because even though Gary uses a wheelchair we have managed pretty well. Azteca Inn has ground floor rooms. The cabs are easy to get in and out of, and there are many ramps in the Golden Zone. There are improvements possible but we have not seen another place in Mexico that beats it for accessability. Dear Nadine and Henry, We have been coming to Mazatlan for a month in the winter for the last 3 years.Your web page helped me to give the name of your dentist to a friend last year, with great results. I now find that I have to be on oxygen at night, and when ever I am walking due to much radiation, lung cancer. What I would like to know is oxygen available for rent at the Sharp hospital? If there is an English speaking person that we could call at the hospital? I copied your entire web site and gave it to many of our friends and has been so appreciated by all. Sincerely, Mary F. Hi Henry and Nadine! We're returning again in February - and can't wait. Can you please tell me how to get to the Juarez market from the north end (La Marina)? I understand it's lots of fun to go there, really good variety and cheaper than most? I look forward to hearing from you. Take care. - Lori

I'm heading down Nov 3-10 with my sister and her 2 kids. Anyone have experience travelling down there with kids? (ages 4 and 5) My younger girlfriends advise not to, but I think it will be a blast with them. We got a pkg at the Riviera hotel. Anyone know about this place? Hope to see you there! A word to Nadine and Henry...I will drop by your house with a donation to the Animal Shelter personally in that week. I support several in this country as best as I can.

Our family is in the process of planning a holiday in March 2001, we are trying to find somewhere to stay without having to go the package way(expensive hotel and flight deal). We are trying to find a small 1 bedroom suite(we have two kids under 12) with kitchen facilities. I found places in my Frommers Guide, Apartments (Apartamentos)Fiesta, Del Real Suites and Inn at Mazatlan. Is anybody familiar with these places? Does anyone recommend trying a place of the beaten path with kids. We really don't want to pay resort prices. Is it safe to call the hotels directally to book accommadations? Are we sure of a place when we get there if we do? Lots of questions, but we really want an enjoyable holiday without a lot of scarey surprises! ANY information e-mailed to me would be most appreciated! Thanks for any help.

Dear Nadine and Henry - your website is, as uaual, outstanding. Thank you for keeping it going - I look at it every year before I go to Mazatlan! I was reading about Sharp hospital and the medical care there. I had to laugh and wanted Nadine to know that I haven't found any George Clooney's at our hospitals here either. Too bad. I will be coming down in November. I would like to donate to the Amigos de los Animales, so hope that I can just mail my donation to your San Diego address. If not, is there a way I can get it to you while I'm in Mazatlan? Please let me know. Your site is an inspiration - keep up the great work!

I traveled to Mazatlan this summer with my best friend and it was the WORST experience of our lives. It took approximately 5 hours to finally get there. After we arrived I got food poisoning from room service from the El Cid Resort. The next day I had $80.00 stolen from me from the maids. The people there were very rude. After that we decided to have fun no matter what. However, there was not that much to do unless you are a deep sea fisherman. We could hardly wait to get home the day we arrived. I have been to Cozumel two years in a row and that is the best place thus far to vacation in Mexico. The people are nice and you feel save no matter where you go. I would reccommend vacationing in Cozumel at the Paradisus Hotel. Marci :0)

Just wanted to thank you a bit belatedly for your very helpful website. We stayed at Vidafel during school vacation week in February. We managed to get to Ernie Tomatoes, Senor Frogs, Panama Bakery, Terraza Playa, and Mister A's. We couldn't get over not just the wonderful and reasonable food but the outstanding service at these restaurants and everywhere we went! It was almost like the waiters had ESP--they anticipated your every need! We have traveled quite a bit, mostly to resort locations and have NEVER had such superb service and attention! At Ernie Tomatoes, the bartender sent over free drinks to us because I wasn't smiling ( I was a little worried about our 16 year old daughter and her friend who were walking around shopping and attracting a lot of male attention!) We danced on chairs at Senor Frogs (my daughter thought someone had stolen her real parents!). We had a romantic evening (the two of us!) on the "terraza" at Playa Mazatlan, dancing to romantic live music, watching the Sunday night fireworks and enjoying a great meal and cocktails. All four of us had a late night pastry at Panama--delectable! And we managed to sneak away for another dinner for two at Mister A's, where the owner came to our table to personally inquire about our meal. Thanks again for all your good advice!! We'd go back to Maz in a minute!! P.S. Loved the pulmonias!!

Thank you, Henry and Nadine. Of course, after printing out reams of your info, I left the pile of papers home. Still, I retained enough to have made excellent use of some of your suggestions and information. We stayed at the El Moro tower of El Cid resorts. The accomodations were excellent, and the entire staff was friendly, polite and helpful. The food there is excellent, by the way, and they have loads of activities going on all day for all ages. We stumbled on Gus-Gus the first night, and, for our first meal at a Mexican restaurant were duly impressed. For under $20 we had so much food and drink that we brought leftovers back for the next day's lunch! Plus, after 8:30 p.m. they have a live band that plays classic rock (as opposed to the canned Mexican stuff we got most other places). Cilantro at the Pueblo Bonito Ressort is another excellent restaurant, though slightly pricier. Their green salad was a surprising treat for the tastebuds even without adding any dressing! The fish dishes are top notch. We went on several tours - Copala, old Mazatlan, Stone Island - so we were busy all the time. We went to Copala the day of the big storm in the morning which turned out to be smart - we didn't have to sit around the resort moaning about the lack of sun, because by the time we got back the sun was out! The reason there are so few people from the eastern US and Canada (we met one guy from Florida) is that there is no direct flight. Changing planes in Houston meant killing most of 2 days traveling. the powers that be at El Cid said that there should be a direct flight from the NY-NJ area within about 2 years. I sure hope so, because Mazatlan is definitely a place I want to return to! Again, thank you for so thoroughly preparing us for a phenomenal experience.

Hello all you Maz lovers! We check this page regularly and love getting the info from you all and thanks Nadine and Henry for allowing us Maz lovers to communicate. It seems, though, that our last comments were somehow erased from your comment board so we will add them again since its always helpful to share good fortune with others. As of last March, you could golf at the El Cid even though you may not be staying there. All you have to do is phone them to book a time or ask your hotel hospitality clerk to do it for you. The El Cid is a lovely course. Has anyone spent Christmas and New Years in Maz? We would appreciate feed back. We've been to Maz several times but never then. Also, has anyone ever taken the bus as a self tour? Any suggestions would be appreciated also. Thanks all, and hopefully this entry will stay put long enough to get some replys. And to all of you who are just counting the days till you see that wonderful city again...........ENJOY!

It's been a week and a half since returning from beautiful Mazatlan. I want to be there right now (it's cold in this Country!) Thank you Henry and Nadine for the wonderful website, all of the information was so helpful, we even used some of the coupons. I certainly will be returning (bought into a time share at El Cid!). I must do a countless number of tours still. Really enjoyed the Stone Island Tour and the trip to Copalla. I don't think that I have met a nicer people than those in Mazatlan, they really do make you feel comfortable and safe. Just a hint for those looking for a place to stay, we stayed at the Las Palmas before moving to El Morro, beside the beautiful courtyard, the walls are paper thin, and when you have party animals next door to you, you may find it very hard to sleep before 5 in the morning. I can't wait to book my next week, or two, or three!!!

I just returned from Mazatlan and thought I would send some feedback. First of all the Torre Tropicana is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in in my entire life (and having travelled to 17 different countries, I think I'm a fairly good judge). It's noisy, not very clean and the constant stream of time share sales people is awful. Sure -- ask me once if I'm interested, but the same person asking me two times a day every day gets really tiring! Besides that - the walls are paper thin - lying in bed we could hear every word of the conversation going on in the next room. Add to that the screaming drunks from the other floors and it is intolerable. But don't even think of asking Canada 3000 to help you move to another hotel. Lori couldn't care less! But other than the hotel we had a blast. Every moment out of it was a lot of fun. The boat cruise to Stone Island, renting mopeds, playing in the surf, walking around the old Mazatlan - all great! However -- the best meals that we had while we were there was at Los Piratos. You won't find it on the main touristy areas - you actually have to step outside the norm! I don't have the actual address on me -- but I can give directions. When standing on the front steps of the cathedral down town and looking at the park, turn right on 21 Marzo and walk approx. 2-3 blocks. (I think it is the street after 5 Mayo). It is on the corner, painted blue and yellow with a big Corona sign painted on it, and a plastic Pacifico sign off the side. They play 60's and 80's music and the deep fried shrimp basket is absolutely amazing. The shrimp practically melts in your mouth. Service is second to none (mainly due to the fact that we were the only people there), and the beer is much cheaper than in the hotel zone! DO NOT MISS THIS RESTAURANT!!!!! Just thought I would share!

I SPENT 5DAYS AND 4 NIGHTS AT THE MOST BEAUTIFUL RESORT ON THE ISLAND, PLAYA MAZATLAN AND I RECOMMEND IT TO ALL WHO ASK. THE CLUBS ARE AWESOME, AND THE SEAFOOD TO DIE FOR. TRY ASKING ONE OF THE HOTELS ABOUT THE ALL DAY BOAT TRIP, IT IS USUALLY ABOUT $20 AND IT IS ALL YOU CAN EAT AND ALL YOU CAN DRINK. THE TRIP IS WORTH IT AND THE FOOD IS GREAT....

This is my first day back at work. (Coffee without Kahlua, interesting concept!) We spent 15 wonderful days in Mazatlan and wanted to thank you for all of the great information, you helped us make certain we didn't miss anything new since our last trip. A few observations: Panama serves up several of the greatest breakfasts I've ever had. The Morning Roll for 2 is fantastic! Sunday morning NFL and breakfast at No Name Cafe (the El Americano breakfast) was also great. Thorney's Surfburgers was a real find! Great burgers, nice people! Pueblo Bonito was magnificent as usual. Superior service in a beautiful environment. The people of Mazatlan are some of the friendliest and kindest people in the world and I should know having traveled in 15 countries. We're already planning our return in 12/01. At one point, I almost faxed home to tell them to "sell stuff, send check and dogs!". Someday I will. Thanks again for the wonderful site. I'll keep checking in.

Dear Nadine and Henry, Thank you for all the useful information about Mazatlan on your web site. My wife and I and two other couples just came back from a visit there. We went down on the 29th and returned yesterday the 3rd of January. This was the fifth trip to Mexico for my wife and I, but we had not visited Mazatlan before. We loved it. Pluses: 1. Aeromexico from Phoenix was outstanding. On prior trips we had flown America West, Alaska Air and Mexicana. Aeromexico was the best of all. AM had modern, well maintained (we are Boeing Quality Engineers) equipment and the service was excellent. 2. Almost all the food was marvelous. The single exception was our hotel breakfast (see negatives below). 3. In all instances, we found the Mexican people friendly and courteous, and there is less pressure for time share sales than in Cabo or Puerto Vallarta. 4. Shopping was outstanding with a better variety of products and far more stores. 5. The "Gringo Wagens" (my term for the open air taxis) were a fun, inexpensive way of getting around town. 6. One of the wives became ill with the flu, most likely contracted prior to the trip. A doctor was called, she was picked up by ambulance and admitted to a small clinic (I don't know the name) and hospitalized with. The facility, its medical staff and the care that she received was excellent. Negatives: 1. Our hotel was the Oceana Palace. It's the worst hotel we've ever stayed in in Mexico. The service was very poor and the facility is in a terrible state of neglect. There were many other guests who were also expressing their extreme dissatisfaction with the OP. Further, my wife and I travel extensively and have visited more than 30 countries around the world, but the OP is the worst place we've ever stayed in. Even the nondescript little Hotel Mar De Cortez in Cabo with no TV was more enjoyable. My letter of complaint will be going to Best Western's corporate headquarters, the details of which are far too voluminous for this medium. In summary, we suggest that you consider this information for inclusion in your web site. 2. We would never go back to Mexico (especially Mazatlan) at a time that coincides with a school break. There were scores of Canadian college students in the OP and the nearby Double Tree who partied loudly around the clock. We were able to get only about two hours of sleep during the night of the 2nd. 3. Restaurant Los Canoes. The beach location is terrific and there was no loud disco, just Mexican music in a (Mexican) family atmosphere. And the food was to die for. Again, we loved Mazatlan and will be returning as soon as possible. Next time we'll be wiser and select a better hotel. What is you best recommendation? Sincerely, Fred & Sally Kuykendall Gold Canyon, Arizona
